REVOLUTIONIZING CHOLERA IN THE GANGES
Mohandas was a quiet child who did not stand for anything, if at all for their thinness. Did not, either in childhood or adolescence, signs of brilliance, just barely passing his entrance exam to the University of Bombay, in India. But as soon as he left the country the opportunity to study law at the University of London, culminating there a formative stage and subsequently declared himself as "the days leading up to the time it began to live." After more than two years in England he returned to India, where, given its timid and hesitant, failed as a lawyer in a world in which his personality would come across the front with a profession that demanded a more aggressive. But if something was going to excel in the future the young Mohandas, who would go down in history with the nickname of "great soul, Mahatma Gandhi, was his pacifist ideology. Accepted twentyfour work in South Africa where they would begin to be aware of the racial discrimination which was under his people and where their fight in defense of civil rights was going to turn fuse to finish making it the political activist who now know it was. Gandhi is the epitome of the model in the fight known as "non-violence Resistance" and represents a lifestyle characterized by his asceticism and his strong religious character. Maybe that's why, after his death in 1948 for opposing the religious conflicts that erupted after independence of India, no one doubted that the place had to take his ashes was the river Ganges. And is that the Hindu tradition says this is the way to end the sequence of reincarnations and reach spiritual liberation or Nirvana. For this reason, many remains of important people of India and even foreign company which are deposited in the river year after año.Pero the Ganges River is not only subject to the Hindu tradition. Lately, we accept the theory that the water was born one of the diseases that has caused epidemics throughout human history and that more deaths have left behind: cholera. sta disease has an intestinal condition characterized by the presence of vomiting, diarrhea and numbness in the legs and is caused by bacteria rod-shaped bacillus, called Vibrio cholerae, which is housed in the small intestine and that several biotypes. Cholera is a disease that is usually transmitted by contact with an infected person, but by swallowing water or food contaminated with bacteria, and that appears as an epidemic in areas where hygiene conditions are not the most appropriate and in situations war or any other motivo.Uno overcrowding of the symptoms that clearly help diagnose the disease is known as "rice water", which consists of a whitish diarrheal stools in a very large number. The analysis shows how these stools present a very low amount of salts. This is because the bacteria, once inside the intestines, it sticks to the walls of this and secretes a toxin that will trigger a series of reactions whose end result is the lack of entry of sodium chloride salt-in within intestinal epithelial cells called enterocytes. This will make you pass a large amount of liquid along with other ions, such as bicarbonate or potassium, and is this mixture that gives rise to these deposits as características.En most cases, the disease occurs as benign or asymptomatic, but approximately five percent of these, the patient may lead to a serious situation. In these cases, rapid loss of fluids can even lead to death if the disease is not treated correctly, by replacing fluids, glucose and sales.En today, and we could say that over the last century, cholera has been presented as a rare disease of concern in the developed world due to its low incidence, but there is a priority health problem in some Asian, African and Latin American. Control over water and food to eat, to be managed under strict conditions of hygiene are more than sufficient to prevent the onset of the disease. Although here too, of course, differences economic status between the two countries play a more important role than it should.
